While there isn’t really a concrete amount that experts have agreed on, it depends on the person since water requirement may vary from person to person. For example, someone who just spends the day relaxing might not need as much water compared to someone who’s exerting effort like a firefighter or battling an inner battle during a bout of fever. The same goes when you’re working out.

Water maintains our health, that’s why you should drink plenty of it. You have to make sure that you keep the level of fluids in your body or else you just have to face the dangers of dehydration. What’s scary about dehydration is that you can easily get it, for example, a prolonged session of physical exertion like working out. If left untreated, it can increase in severity and drinking water might not just be enough. You need to have an intravenous line to be inserted and parenteral fluids need to be administered to ensure that you don’t get dehydrated.

The best way to get the benefits is by drinking plain water. It’s pure bliss to drink cold water, especially during the hot summer season. But there are other sources like fruit juices, milk and drinks that don’t contain caffeine. They help in rehydrating the body and help a lot in long periods of exercise. Aside from fluids and drinks, you can also get water from fruits and vegetables, though they may be smaller in amount. If you plan on exercise while the humidity is low and the air is dry, most commonly during summer, it’s advisable to drink plenty of water, take a filled water bottle with you during your run and eat water-filled foods like fruits and vegetables.
Working Out and Drinking Water
Exercise and water are two components that go together. Its good practice to drink water before you start your workout session since you’ll be sweating out a lot of water when you begin. Drinking water after working out is also advisable since you’ll be replacing the fluids that you’ve lost while also replenishing the oxygen supply in the body.
